New Flames Players' Tour Guide Not Who You'd Expect

In case you needed any more proof that Calgary Flames sophomore Matt Coronato can do it all, a footnote in Morgan Frost's interview with Flames TV on Friday disclosed that the talented winger can add another title to his resume.

Passer. Sniper ... Chauffeur.

When new players are trying to get their bearings in a new city, it's frequently one of the more veteran members of the franchise taking on that responsibility.

However, it was Coronato getting the shout out from Frost on Friday when asked how he was getting to know his teammates over the past week.

"I’ve been taking my time getting out of the rink when we’re done; kinda hanging out in the lounge and stuff like that, just trying to talk to guys," Frost said. "After that, Beezer (Joel Farabee) and I have spent some time with Matty (Coronato). He’s been great kinda driving us around, and that kinda thing so far. Great guy."

Great guy. Great player. Incredibly popular teammate.

It seems every young player on the Calgary Flames roster has been naming Coronato as the person they're closest with on the squad. Connor Zary mentioned it earlier in the season. Dustin Wolf went the same route when asked about his favorite teammates.

In addition to Coronato's impressive skills as a tour guide, he's been stellar on the ice for the Flames as well. The 22-year-old has 14 goals and 30 points in 49 games this season — which is his first full year in the NHL.

And this is a kid who started the season as a healthy scratch.

It didn't take long to force his way into a regular role. Then he found a home next to Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman on the team's shut-down line. Coronato takes shut down to another level, and keeps producing offence while frequently cracking 19 or 20 minutes of ice time nightly.

Looks like he's adding leadership skills to his resume, too.
