Heather Rae El Moussa doesn't miss Selling Sunset. Although you might think that filming a reality show (HGTV's The Flip Off) with your husband (Tarek El Moussa) and his ex-wife (Christina Haack) could be a little dramatic, Heather said that she's having more fun now than in her final years at the Oppenheim Group.
"Selling Sunset was a lot of stress on me," Heather told Yahoo Entertainment. "We were just a real estate office and then happened to get a reality show, so that started my TV career, which is amazing. But it brought a lot of drama and stress into my life."
Heather continued, "I would come home to [Tarek] sometimes after filming and just be in tears because of all the stress that I went through. Then having to watch it back and then be attacked by viewers. It was really hard on me."
Heather was an original cast member, alongside Chrishell Stause, Christine Quinn and Mary Fitzgerald Bonnet. She was not asked to return after the show's seventh season, something she views as a blessing.
"I have a really big heart. I'm a sensitive person. So it was challenging for me," she explained. "[The Flip Off] has been so uplifting and so rewarding, and I love flipping houses. Before, I would walk through homes that were already renovated, beautiful $20 million homes, and now I get to transform homes for people."
Heather said she loves filming with Tarek and Haack: "It's such a lighthearted show and we're having so much fun that I'm so much happier where I'm at right now."
The Flip Off was originally supposed to be a house-flipping show where the El Moussas competed against Haack and her husband at the time, Josh Hall. Haack and Hall split in July 2024, shortly after production began, and Hall left the series.
Heather said the only "reservations" she had before signing onto the show were whether Tarek and Haack — who starred on Flip or Flop when they were married (and divorced) — could film together again. Ultimately, it "brought us closer together," she said.
"We got to know each other in a different way, on a deeper level, and I really enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to," added Heather. "And I think it was fun for [Christina and Tarek] to come back together and film. There's no drama right now in our lives. We're all just having a great time filming this show together."
The Flip Off airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV.
