Great Britain failed to defend their 4x200m men’s freestyle relay world title as they came fourth in Doha.
The quartet of Matt Richards, Max Litchfield, Jack McMillan and Duncan Scott finished behind winners China, with South Korea second and the United States third.
“We were a bit disappointed but when we looked at the splits, I don’t think we had much more in us,” said Scott.
Britain’s Anna Hopkin came fifth in the women’s 100m freestyle final.
“That’s the fastest time I’ve been since the Olympics,” said Hopkin. “Obviously I want to be quicker at the Olympics this year, so being at this point in February is really encouraging.
“It would’ve been nice to get on the podium, but I’m just happy to be in a good place right now.”
Elsewhere, Ben Proud and Freya Colbert progressed to Saturday’s finals, each qualifying eighth quickest, in the men’s 50m freestyle and women’s 200m backstroke respectively.
