Newcastle striker Callum Wilson accused Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario of “a lack of respect” after the pair clashed during Spurs’ win on Sunday.
Wilson was unhappy with Vicario’s fiery reaction after he saved a header from the England forward near the end of Tottenham’s 4-1 Premier League victory.
“There’s a way to win, isn’t there?” Wilson said to Sky Sports.
In response on Instagram, Vicario said: “Respect is given – to everyone that respects me.”
Wilson came on as a second-half substitute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, making his return after more than a month out with a hamstring injury.
He set up Joelinton’s stoppage-time consolation goal before having a header saved by the Italian keeper seconds prior to the final whistle.
The loss was Newcastle’s second defeat in four days after Thursday’s 3-0 reverse at Everton.
“I think we saw it in the week when Everton were winning and (Jordan) Pickford was messing around,” Wilson added.
“The goalkeeper [Vicario] starts pulling faces and messing around and it’s just a lack of respect, I thought.
“But I said my piece, we’re grown men and we move on.”
