Debutant Sajeevan Sajana hit a final-ball six to help Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by four wickets in the opening game of the new Women’s Premier League season.
With five needed for victory, Sajana heaved her first delivery over long-on to spark wild celebrations.
England’s Alice Capsey hit 75 from 53 balls as Delhi posted 171-5 in Bangalore.
But Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 2-33 and 19 runs played a part in Mumbai’s win.
Yastika Bhatia’s 57 and Harmanpreet Kaur’s 55, off 34 balls, were also crucial for defending WPL champions Mumbai, before Sajana’s heroics off Capsey’s bowling after she had just come to the crease edged a tense finale.
The 29-year-old is captain of Indian side Kerala and was signed by Mumbai in December at the lower end of the player auction price band.
